Getting your car ready for spring

Getting your car ready for spring
29 March 2019

Now that we have entered the Spring season, it is a good idea to make sure that you take the steps necessary to ensure your car is best adapted to the changing weather conditions. Take the following four steps which will help you and your car be ready for the season.

  1. Give your car a good spring clean. It’s a good time to give your car a good hose down which will help remove the grime and all the salt from the road, the latter can be corrosive and cause rust if left on the bodywork. The underside is best cleaned with a pressure washer, but don’t spray the oil seals or the rubber areas.
  2. Consider your tyres. Check the air pressure and the treads. Most cars are fitted with all season tyres, but if you had ones fitted especially for the Winter, it’s now time to replace them with ones suitable for the other three seasons.
  3. Check the condition of your wipers. Your wipers will have been used the most in the Winter season, now we will be seeing some better weather, it’s appropriate to see what state that are in. Do the blades look in good condition? Give them a clean if not, stones and dirt stuck there can damage the windscreen if not removed.
  4. Check your brakes. Like your wipers, your brakes have probably been used a lot in winter. Can you hear a grinding sound when you apply them? If so, it’s time to get them checked by a professional, as they may need replacing.
